Expert in boxing Peter Kahn has announced his predictions and best bets for Saturday’s bout in Las Vegas between Jaime Munguia and Canelo Alvarez.
On Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia will compete for the undisputed super middleweight belts, serving as the first all-Mexican showdown for a major world title at any weight over 160 pounds.
After his victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2017, Alvarez withdrew from competition with other Mexican boxers for a period of seven years. Defending his belts in the IBF, WBC, WBA, and WBO, he will make an exception on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Since his 2022 defeat to Dmitrii Bivol, which is just one of his two defeats on record, Alvarez has won three straight fights by unanimous decision.
Later in the evening, Canelo vs. Munguia will be the main event of Saturday’s main card at T-Mobile Arena, starting at 8 p.m. ET. In the odds of Alvarez vs. Munguia, the former is a -400 favorite (risk $400 to win $100) while the latter is a +300 underdog.
The total number of rounds completed is 10.5, with the Over being shaded at -200. Be sure to check out SportsLine analyst Peter Kahn’s boxing predictions and betting recommendations before committing to any Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia wagers.

Jaime Munguia vs. Canelo Alvarez preview
Since winning by unanimous decision over Julio Ceasar Chavez Jr. in May 2017, Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) has not squared off against another Mexican in the boxing arena.
WBC middleweight champion Chavez Jr. lost three of his next four fights, including one against former UFC champion Anderson Silva, after his loss to Alvarez sent him into a downturn in his career.
As to Alvarez’s statement, he deliberately avoided playing against Mexican opponents so as not to jeopardize their careers and hence leave the sport with fewer Mexican champions and stars.
But in Munguia’s case, he made an exception because a Saturday loss wouldn’t be able to mar Munguia’s already illustrious career or legacy. Munguia’s successes have also inspired Alvarez to see their bout as a celebration of Mexico’s rich boxing heritage and to utilize it as a springboard to give spectators an unforgettable display.
At a news conference on Tuesday, Álvarez stated, “Yes, I’ve said I don’t want to fight Mexican fighters.” “However, I’m happy we were able to make it happen because Munguía is a respectful person who has earned this fight.” Because it’s all Mexican, I’m really proud of this.”
Earlier this year in a super middleweight battle in Phoenix, Munguia defeated John Ryder, and going into this match, he had a perfect 43-0 record. Before getting the victory via TKO in the ninth round, he had recorded four knockdowns. Ryder beat Alvarez last year, so that victory will boost his confidence a little.
Munguia will be competing for his third career world championship in this weight class and his sixth overall. In his prior world title battles, he was 5-0-0 with two knockouts; versus past or present world champions, he was 2-0-0 with one knockout. Eight of the 27-year-old’s previous ten fights have ended without a decision, and he has won four of his last five fights via TKO or KO. Check out who needs to back here.
